OPEN MONUMENT DAY

Bennigsen Red Brick Barn

For this year’s “Open Monument Day®” the historic brick barn at Rittergut Bennigsen was opened to the public, attracting many visitors with free guided tours. A highlight of the event was the restoration of the street-facing gate of the drive-through barn, which emphasizes the building’s character.

The engaging tours, led by Jelena Kaminski and Daniel Wunder, offered fascinating insights into the architecture and construction history. In addition to historical facts, visionary ideas for the future use of the barn were also presented, giving visitors new perspectives on this unique monument.

Known on the estate as the “Brick Barn,” the building is located in the second courtyard. Specifically, it is a longitudinal drive-through barn with a gabled roof, built in 1860. Rudolf von Bennigsen had this representative farm building constructed, which is particularly striking inside due to its wooden framework. Many of the original structural elements remain intact. The barn has been cleared out, and renovation is set to begin soon.

Missed the event? No problem! Make a note of the Open Monument Day® in late summer 2025. Then there is the next exciting building to discover on the Bennigsen estate.
