VIEUX FARKA TOURÉ

Vieux Farka Touré’s concert in the packed concert barn was an unforgettable experience for the numerous audience members that made their way to the Bennigsen estate. The atmosphere was already electrifying when, after a downpour, a brilliant rainbow appeared in the sky. This only added to the anticipation of the concert. Towards the end of the concert hardly anyone was still in their seats, but rather up and dancing wildly to guitar sounds from Mali.

Vieux Farka Touré, son of the legendary Malian guitarist Ali Farka Touré, presented songs from his solo album “Les Racines”. The album was the result of two years of hard work and reflected his deep connection to the roots and history of his homeland. The idea for this album had been buzzing in Vieux’s head for a long time, but it wasn’t until the lockdowns caused by the coronavirus outbreak that he was able to focus on it intensely.

In “Les Racines,” timeless grooves infuse the traditional music of West Africa, while Vieux’s passionate guitar playing and the urgency of his messages lend modern meaning. It’s an album that deals with both traditional and contemporary themes, and makes you feel a strong commitment to addressing issues and making people think.

Overall, the concert of Vieux Farka Touré and his band was an overwhelming success. The unique blend of traditional and modern music, coupled with Vieux’s exceptional talent, made this evening an unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance. It was a magical night that left the audience feeling connected and inspired.
